Photographic societies were as popular in the 1920's as social networking and twittering today.

It’s great fun researching the 1920s - a stylish period, with wonderful fashions and crazy dancing!
Counterpointing those times was the personal and social upheaval after the First World War. My Uncle Peter, at the age of 19, was honourably discharged from the army, having been gassed. He lived with impaired health for the rest of his life, earning his living as a bookmaker’s clerk on race courses. Half a century later, as he lay dying, the hospital ward television blared out the moon landings. |
